Stealing a complete Zero from his future self would mean he already had a complete Zero, and no reason to finish him for himself to steal. After all, this is Wily. He would completely forget to finish Zero or something because he would be ruling the world. And if his past self stole the complete Zero It would be stuck in a time loop and Zero would never come into existence. Thus, paradox. Of course, it would be possible to avoid, but tricky, and Wily would have to act according to guidelines he didn't even know to ensure the future would be correct.
He altered the future, causing a split in the timeline from what is supposed to happen. *points to Back to the Future for the whole multiple timelines* Plus Wily was reading a paper on the mechanics of time travel, published by a Professor Kain. >_> <_<
but if Quint destroys Megaman, he ceases to exist. if he ceased to exist, he wouldn't have destroyed Megaman. If he didn't destroy Megaman, he would exist. If he did exist, he would destroy Megaman. *repeat*
Well, Wily erased quints mind, so that quint would have no knowledge that he was fighting his past self, resulting in quint committing suicide without knowing, and he wanted to make sure quint defeated him so that if one of them survived, the other wouldn't want to stop him
@supersonicfan0: No, I mean the past has been altered so much, the timelines have split, therefore making Quint an alternate version of Megaman, how the past was altered could just be Quint's presence. You know, these are the kinds of things that make me relieved that time travel to the past is impossible
@pat15: That might be true, but it may be easier to imagine by using multiple universe theory. Since Wily brought Quint into the present, the universe branched in two. Thus, if Quint killed megaman, he would not be killing the megaman from his universe, but one from an alternate universe. Quint could not exist if his mega was killed, but for him to kill the mega of this universe would only be preventing one alternate Quint from existing.
Great comic you got here. Read through the archive (which I rarely do with webcomics these days, I usually just skim through them or neglect to read them at all). I was just wondering a few things though. Two questions, one might lead to spoilers, so you don't have to answer that -- and the other is in relation to what's being talked about in the comments area.
First of all, is this comic going to just follow the cataclysm theory, with Zero killing off all the classic characters? This is your comic, not mine. So I can't tell you how to do things and that's fine if you are doing that, but I would just like to confirm this information. Me, personally, I feel that it is overdone and it isn't backed up by any official Mega Man media whatsoever, merely fanon. And Keiji Inafune has denied it. Again, I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. Just thought I'd offer my two cents. So, far, it doesn't look like the comic is going in that direction.
Second question, what version of time travel are you actually using? Because, in reality, time travel has yet to exist, the rules of time travel are debatable. Wily mentions paradoxes, but I agree more with EskimoOfTheNight's explanation of time travel which is similar to that of the multiverse theory. In which, as soon as an individual travels through time, they have created a split in the timeline into another universe, and thus anything they do does not have any consequences at all to the original universe. But, I can understand why Dr. Wily wouldn't want to take the risk, just in case it turns out to be wrong. He has no way of knowing.
I apologize if I come off as rude, just wanted to express my opinion. This kind of thing is fun to talk about... but, I guess that second question was more directed at the people in the comments area rather then the author...
